What is an Active Master Title?
An Active Master Title is one book, however many formats it has. The ebook, paperback, hardcover and audiobook ISBNs of a book all sit under a single Master Title and count once toward your plan. Archive a title and it stops counting.
How is Royaltis cheaper than per-ISBN royalty software?
Per-ISBN platforms bill every format separately, so a 500-book catalog with three formats each is billed as about 1,500 items. Royaltis bills 500 Master Titles on a flat $149 per month plan, which can save publishers thousands of dollars a year depending on catalog size.

What is ONIX 3.0 metadata management and does Royaltis handle it?
ONIX 3.0 is the international standard XML format publishers use to send book metadata to retailers and distributors. Royaltis suggests BISAC codes and reader-intent keywords, scores your metadata's health from 0 to 100, and exports valid ONIX 3.0 with contributors, imprint names, BISAC subjects, descriptions, prices and territory rights — no XML editing required.
How do authors approve files before a book is distributed?
Each contributor gets a free, passwordless portal via a one-time magic link. Publishers hand over the manuscript, cover or audio master there, and the author approves it or requests a revision on that exact version. Once every file is signed off, the title is genuinely ready to export as ONIX and distribute.
What are AI catalog insights?
Royaltis reads your imported sales data to spot format spikes and drops and regional demand, then suggests blog topics, reader search intent, sequel hooks and marketing actions for each title. Results are cached for 30 days and included in every plan, so they add no extra cost.
How does Royaltis calculate author royalties?
Royaltis works in integer cents and basis points, never floating point, so totals always add up exactly. It applies flat or threshold-based rates to net receipts or list price, splits sales across tiers when a threshold is crossed, and supports separate rules for each co-author and format. Advances are recouped from earned royalties before anything is payable, and an optional returns reserve is held back and released in a later cycle.
Can Royaltis import reports from Amazon KDP and IngramSpark?
Yes. Upload the CSV or Excel report (up to 15 MB) from Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, Draft2Digital, Kobo and others. Royaltis fuzzy-matches the column headers, lets you confirm the mapping, and saves it as a template for next time.
Do I need a password to use Royaltis?
No. Publishers and authors sign in with a one-time magic link sent by email. The link works once, expires in 15 minutes and starts a secure session, so there is no password to remember, reuse or leak.
How much does Royaltis cost?
Royaltis is free for one Active Master Title (up to four formats). Paid plans start at $9 per month for 2 to 10 titles and scale to $599 per month for up to 1,200 titles, with a custom quote above that. Is my publishing data secure?
Yes. Every database query is scoped to your publisher account, finalized statements are sealed with a SHA-256 hash and locked against edits, sensitive author details are encrypted at rest, and all administrative actions are recorded in a tamper-evident audit log.
Does Royaltis handle author advances and returns reserves?
Yes. Set an advance on any title and author contract and Royaltis recoups it from the royalties earned on that title before anything is paid out, showing the Advance Balance Remaining on every statement and in the Author Portal. You can also hold a percentage of each payment back against returns for one or two cycles; the reserve is itemized on each statement line and released automatically.
